Duct Tape Dress Form
Posted February 7, 2010
on:Today I did my 1st custom dress form made from duct tape! But instead of “the guru” Aunt Connie, my sister in law helped me. She has no sewing experience. We used a video by Mimi Goodwin to aid us. It was easy even though I had to coach Neisha. It took us about 1 hour and it came out great. My neices helped with the stuffing. It was so fun getting them excited about sewing! I know the next will be even better. Visit Mimi’s website to get the video @ http://myraida.blogspot.com.
Going custom…

on:When you make your own clothes, you soon realize how handy it would be to have a body double! I have previously invented in a dress form with the dials on the side but it wasn’t exactly me. I decided I wanted, no must have, a custom made dress form. After investigating where to get one and how much they cost, I was tripping!!! Then a couple of years ago I came across a article about DIY dress forms. Bingo!! (like my Grandma would say) I can get what I want, a custom dress form, and save money. Two of my favorite things
Out of the examples listed, I choose to research the plaster/foam method, and the duct tape method. I was shocked by how much info is out there regarding duct tape dress forms!! There was free info and videos galore…some was vague as hell. Then, of course, there was info via pdf and video for sale. And the stuff came from all levels of experience in sewing. I ended up buying a video download made by a cool chick. Unlike most of the instructions that didn’t really take in or speak on the curvature of your body and how to angle the tape when applying…she did! The download is very inexpensive and well worth it. I’ll be making mine this weekend with the help of my Aunt Connie (the Guru)
